"Fireworks for Arsonists" is a metaphorical term that describes people incapable of taking responsibility and thus using their power to bully the weak instead. On a larger scale it refers to people who misuse their positions for oppression, and it can be used to describe the deeds of people maintaining their status by doing so - think of authortarian politicians, oligarchs and capitalists, or other arsonists who were given fireworks.
"Fireworks for Arsonists" is also the name of the debut album by Erndtebrück's Punk Rock band No Guidance, consisting of Lukas (guitar), Pascal (vocals), Sebastian (guitar), Niklas (drums), and Florian (bass). If you wonder where the heck, Erndtebrück is, you are not alone - I have lived in Germany for more than three decades, and today I have learned that this place exists. Erndtebrück is a small town with less than 7,000 inhabitants near Siegen in German federal state Northrhine-Westfalia.
The band name No Guidance speeks volumes about the musical style they play, if you ask me. It is one of those names that screams for some kind of melodic Punk Rock subgenre, and could either be associated with Ska Punk or Hardcore Punk - fortunately, it is the latter. Also, for some reason, the name triggers my brain to think of Black Flag's song 'No Values'.
Nevertheless, here it is: the debut album by German quartet No Guidance. The recordings feature guest vocals whose names shall not be unmentioned: Felix Slenzka, Björn Weber, Christian Völkel, Marco Radtke, and Vera Homrighausen.
No Guidance play fast, melodic, and sympathetic Hardcore Punk for the skate parks and open air stages. If you like artists like House Parties, Wrong Band, Bob Ross Effect, Propagandhi, or Ignite, you will most likely enjoy "Fireworks for Arsonists". The band provides us with well-produced catchy and moshpit-ready anthems. Sure, the skateboard's wheel is not about to be re-invented here, but nevertheless "Fireworks for Arsonists" is a great album - all killer, no filler.
Put this into your car's stereo or play the vinyl record at the next garden party, and the pogo is certain. Also, No Guidance's debut is an empowering and contemporary piece of music that raises its voice against injustice and oppression.
