The current pandemic has had its impact on almost every aspect of our lives. And therefore, it is no surprise that culture has been affected, too. I can imagine that in some decades, people will refer to the early 2020s by giving their arts names such as "COVID Wave", "Corona Period", or "Lockdown Arts". Content, meaning, and sound of many musical releases since March 2020 are coined by a very emotional impact that often conveys desolation or hope - or the ambivalent in-between that musicks our new reality.
And here is where the bridge to London's mUmbo can be forged. The duo was formed in the coronacene, and their first album "I fly with swallows" conveys that very mood that the pandemic has brought to us. It is that constant back and forth between standstill and dynamics, darkness and light, hope and sadness, and everything that lies between those turning points.
"I fly with swallows" feels like a colourful and fantastic dream that the audience can dive into to escape the stressful reality of the coronacene. Salutogenesis via music is provided on nine songs that create beautful safe space for mind and soul. mUmbo use unique techniques to draw their sonic painting. Atmospheric Shoegaze sound builds the soft scaffolding for this dreamy construct that is then filled with sophisticated Art Rock, and decorated with sweet (Anti-)Folk.
mUmbo's "I fly with swallows" is an awesome album that allows you to embrace the beauty of life and nature. Listen to this album while counting the stars and you will definitely have the sweetest dreams afterwards.
Music from every post will stay in the MangoRotation playlist for 14 days.
