 Jem Doulton - Perfect Picture
Release Date: August 27, 2021
Length: 03:55
Genre: Shoegaze / Dark Pop
Origin: LondonEngland

Here is part five of Jem Doulton's project in which the London-based musician records twelve songs together with his friends. Once the dozen is full, they will be featured on the upcoming album "Perfect Picture". This review hence is about the title track.
This time, Jem Doulton gets instrumental support by Ben Doulton (lead guitar), Jamie McCredie (rhythm guitar), Luke Barlow (saxophone), and Kevin Troublant (moog). Together they play a song that is dedicated to everyone who has made bad experience with their step parents.

Different to some of the previous releases from this series, 'Perfect Picture' sounds a lot darker and less dreamy. In the verses, Jem Doulton and his guests play fuzzy and atmospheric late-80s-style Wave and Shoegaze. But instead of drifting into Dream Pop, this experimental track absents itself from light and thus becomes a thrilling Dark Pop hymn. Almost Doom Metal-like, the themes drive forward into darkness while the saxophone entry adds the mood of Funeral Jazz à la taumel or Bohren & der Club of Gore.

Music from every post will stay in the MangoRotation playlist for 14 days.
