In early 2020, London's Indie Folk duo Lost Chimes released their very first single, an ethereal acoustic version of Joy Division's 'Love will tear us apart'. Several singles and about one year later, their self-titled debut album is out and available on 12'' vinyl or for streaming. The album features guest appearances by John Hannon (clarinet, violin) who passed away two days after the album release. Hence, "Lost Chimes" is dedicated to John's legacy.
Further guests on the album are Richard Nicholls (bass), Flora Kirk and Robyn Kirk (vocals on "End of an Era). The main cast of Lost Chimes consists of Gemma Kirk and Nicky Kirk. Their self-titled album is a collection of songs that have been written over the last ten years. On their bandcamp page, they describe the album as "an alluring indie-folk escape into another world".

Taking up on the phrase quoted above, "Lost Chimes" can be considered a gorgeous treasure chest full of stories to get lost in. Fantastic narratives tell of hopes and dreams, life and death, gains and losses. Fiction and reality merge as the colourful tales enchant the mind while the stories of Lost Chimes allure to get lost in them.
The soundscapes on the album are smooth, gentle, and lightfooted. Soothing Folk tunes are carried by gorgeous harmonies and driven forward by steady but gentle movement. It is obvious that Lost Chimes centre the narratives and therefore, the vocals are very clear and on spot. Yet, the warming sounds of guitar, bass, clarinet, or violin are way more than just background noises. The accompanying soundscapes emphasize the musical story-telling and thus make this album a beautiful collection of tales. This an amazing album full of gorgeous narratives - ideal for camp fires or story-time before going to sleep. Lost Chimes provide us with a fantastic and colourful other world.
