Some time ago, I had a talk about music with my dear friend Lee. The gist of our coversation was that music genres and their boundaries are basically obsolete. Of course, many artists and bands reinforce elements of certain genres and also create new genres. But there are artists like Hakim Hietikko, Tuomas Rauhala, and  Panu Rauhala, too. The trio from Finland's capital calls themselves Blodivostok, and their debut album "Human Furioso" is an ideal example for music that does not fit into traditional genre categories.

Some of you might remember the Bomfunk MCs from Finland - a rap crew that merged Rap, Breakbeat, and some kind of Hardcore-related styles. Click here to refresh your memories. The Bomfunk MCs might be a good angle to start describing the music presented on Blodivostok's "Human Furioso". Imagine the Millenium-era chart breakers wilder, weirder, louder.
The three Helsinkian artists provide us with rough soundscapes made from Breakbeat and Industrial that create a powerful Electro Punk foundation with plenty of glitches and dynamic noises. This foundation is overlaid by spheric waves of sound, and thus creates a thrilling tension between calm and hectic. On top, Blodivostok add intense vocals, partly rapped, partly sung, and occasionally shouted - somewhat Rapcore, sometimes it reminds of Melodic Hardcore, other times it reminds of R'n'B.

"Human Furioso" is the soundtrack of the post-apocalypse. The is real independent music. Blodivostok's album could easily be the soundtrack of any kind of fast video game, apocalyptic film, or just for starting off an epic night. "Human Furioso" is a futuristically massive and eclectic moshpit. Skindred meets the Bomfunk MCs on a Pendulum show, and together they start the revolution.
