French artist Lewca has had quite a vast output within the last months. Click here to read more MangoWave posts about the musician from Paris.
After his recent EPs that were often coined by a somewhat dadaist or nihilist mix of genres, Lewca has recently collaborated with Sean Buckley to produce the singles "Dodgems" and "I'm alright". Together they are mintball Let us have a closer look at the latter of those two sogs mentioned. On "I'm alright", mintball take on the serious issue of substance abuse and the denial that often comes as a side effect. Think of the friends or acquaintances who tell you they could quit any time, and therefore were not addicted at all.

"I'm alright" begins like a typical Lewca single. A dynamic beat accompanied by a bassline builds the foundation for Lewca's powerful rap lyrics. But then, the sonic environment changes, and mintball play an energetic mix of Fischer Z-like Post Punk and 2000s British Indie Rock. Immediately, this song becomes a butt-moving dancefloor anthem. And there is that other ingredient that makes "I'm alright" so great, and that is Disco.
I am looking forward to future releases by Lewca and Sean Buckley, since mintball combines the nihilist approach towards genres by Lewca with anthemic structures that will enlighten every party.
