Straight out of the swamps, Bristol's one-frog-army is back with their second full-length album "The Mystic Toad". Only eight months after the first album "Amphibian Ascending", the narrative of the amphibocene continues. The Froglord has not been inactive in the meantime, as this year a remastered version "The Froglord Cometh" and the charity EP "Save the Frogs" have been released as well.
"The Mystic Toad" begins with the arrival of alien invaders from the planet Saturn. The Froglord who has achieved rule over planet Earth before, now has to defend his reign against the attackers. Learning that his powerful deathray is not effective against the Saturnians, the Froglord flees to the Amazon rainforest where he hopes to learn new combat modes that will help defending planet Earth.

From 'They came from Saturn' over 'First Contact' (video above) to 'Green Inferno', the soundscapes follow the massive themes of previous releases. Brachial Sludge, Stoner Metal, and Doom Metal musick the swampy dynamics in which the Froglord defends his reign over the blue planet. The title track marks a very different sonic theme though, as it provides the listeners with a psychedelic mix of Blues, Funk, and Sludge. This outstanding track is the first climax of this stunning album.
Compared to earlier albums and EPs, Froglord has become more dynamic and various in their auditive storytelling. The Post-Sabbath Sludge themes are intertwined with further energetic input. Also, gloomily harmonic impact, both in intrumental as in vocal parts, have increased.
"The Mystic Toad" is definitely Froglord's most versatile and exciting release so far. The Bristol-based one-frog-band has created a fantastic sci-fi narrative. The story of the chosen frog continues, and in the end, we can all dance to the 'Swamp Boogie'.
