The three-track release on hand is already the fifth EP by New York's upcoming talent Sydney Irving. On "Relax with Fiends", the gifted artist provides with a catchy mix of Indie Rock, Acoustic Pop, and a slight impact by Alt Country. You can easily imagine, the three songs sounding stunning without the secondary instruments when played on stage by Sydney Irving alone. Nevertheless, drums, bass, backing vocals, and additive guitars fit the purpose of this release very well. Central musical feature is still the powerful voice by Sydney Irving who presents herself strong, soulful, self-confident, and thus draws the audience's to her lyrics.
The opening track 'Rain' is an easy-going Indie Rock banger. Sydney Irving light-footedly merges Classic Rock with contemporary Indie Pop and an air that spreads the taste of freedom. Following up, 'What have you done' (video aove) is defined by a highly dynamic rhythm that beautifully grinds on the soulful harmonies. This is my personal favourite on the EP containing an anthemic chorus and some sparks of Blues and Country covibrating to the energetic Indie Rock. With the final song 'All I Need Is You', Sydney Irving's fifth EP contains an emotional Indie Folk and Alt Country finale - the acoustic song is full of moods and might become a hymn for the passionate, the romantic, and the loving.
