The first line in the lyrics of "Donuts in the Rain" says: 'I wish I had met you when I was alive'. As od as that may sound at first, it is a perfect introduction to the song's content. Phoenix-based duo Snailmate takes on opportunities in life on this release. "Donuts in the Rain" is a song about chances in life that grant you to re-discover and re-invent yourselves. It is about changing tack, realizing flaws and issues, and consequently changing for good.


Music-wise, "Donuts in the Rain" is a savage bastard of Synthwave, Electro Punk, and Rap. A heavily swirling synthesizer makes the verses sound like an intense heartbeat. As the song goes on, the tension rises, the impact of Punk Rock increases until the song finally discharges in a massive Electro Punk chain lightning.
