The year
2020 will go down in history for its sheer number of cancelled shows and tours.
But on the other hand, the year the pandemic hit the world, is also the year
when live streams and online events became popular across a large of spectrum
of culture. One of these events took place at Danger Room Recordings Services
in Orlando, Florida on May 29, 2020. It was the day when American Hardcore
bands Call in Dead and 2AMature played a crushingly awesome gig at this venue.
The show got streamed live on Facebook, and it is now available as a 7’’ vinyl
record via DCxPC. As the release’s name “DCxPC Live Volume 1 Presents” obviously
tells us, this is only the first live recording done at the Danger Room which
you can soon spin on your turntables.
The A-Side
contains four tracks by Call in Dead. Their opening track ‘Fuck You Yankee Blue
Jeans’ is introduced with the uncommon phrase ‘What’s up, Facebook Live’, but
instead of mourning about this weird concert location, the band immediately
gets into action. Call in Dead play fast, thrashing, and brutal 1990s style
Hardcore. With the second song ‘Summer Camp’, they add further movement to the
show as the track is based on a typical Ska offbeat rhythm. That does not
decrease the violent and powerful Hardcore sound a bit, though. And hence, Call
in Dead accelerate even more with ‘Fight of the Bumblebee’ and ‘Pepto Bismol’.
This is pure Hardcore without compromise. Their style which shows a certain
tendency towards Powerviolence is the perfect sound for a savagely raging mosh
pit. Even though, you might listen to this while sitting in your room or riding
to work, Call in Dead have yet created an amazing live atmosphere.
After a
sympathetic stage announcement, the first ten minutes are over, and it is time
for the B-Side. Not a bit less powerful but with a stronger orientation towards
Hardcore Punk, 2AMature step claim the stage. The first of their three tracks
‘Water Socks’ is an intense anthem for hot and sunny days at the skate park, or
at the beach. Going on with ‘Ouija Board’, 2AMature present the sound, you just
want to stagedive to. Driven by rolling bass lines and ornamented by gorgeous
stops and fills by the drums, this song has the power to create a circle pit
wherever it is being played. And finally, do we get a minute to catch some
breath? Absolutely no! 2AMature close this awesome live recording with their
song ‘Daylight Debt’. Although, there was no audience present at this streamed
gig, you can literally feel the sweat dripping from the walls as the band plays
their intense last song.
